Mad Max: Furiosa is currently playing in cinemas and US audiences have been left confused over one major aspect of it.

The fifth film in the long-running action series was filmed across New South Wales, Australia in 2022, and features characters speaking unique Aussie slang, such as 'fang it' and 'frothing'.

US audiences have taken to social media to express their confusion at the frequent use of distinctly Australian jargon throughout the movie.

'It was a little disturbing to learn a large amount of the post-apocalyptic jargon in Furiosa is actually just regular Australian slang,' one fan quipped.

'The full script is actually just a recording from an afternoon at the pub,' a second person joked.

'Max's son, Sprog, is named after Australian slang for child,' a third person chipped in and a fourth added: 'Fang it made me weirdly nostalgic, nobody uses that anymore.'

Furiosa features a largely Australian all-star cast including Chris Hemsworth, Lachy Hulme, John Howard, Angus Sampson and Nathan Jones.

It is written and directed by legendary Aussie filmmaker George Miller, and also features American actress Anya Taylor-Joy and English star Tom Burke.

The film tells the origin story of a young Imperator Furiosa, played by Anya, who rose to fame as the star of Netflix hit The Queen's Gambit.

Meanwhile, Chris has described his character Dementus as 'a very violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the Wasteland'.

'He has been birthed into a space where it's kill or be killed. He's learned to rule with an iron fist. There's a charisma to him and it's very manipulative,' he said at CCXP in Brazil, where the trailer footage was unveiled.

Furiosa was filmed in New South Wales and was expected to become the biggest movie ever to be made in Australia - Filming wrapped up in September, 2022.

Franchise creator Miller is also back as director and co-writer of Furiosa, alongside Nico Lathouris, as well as his long-time producing partner Doug Mitchell.

Miller has described the prequel as 'a saga' that will be told over a 15-year period, which is much different from 2015's Fury Road, which spanned three days in its timeframe.
